I quite shamelessly wear the same things in blog posts regularly. I have no problem in admitting that I love my cut offs and wear them with classic opaques at least once a week or that my navy wool coat gets regular outings despite it being more practical than fashion forward...HOWEVER, today I have three never blogged before items to show you!

The Maje knit top is a new purchase from BT2, not very cheap but absolutely divine as far as knitwear goes. The jeans are from Topshop, the colour is amazing and I have been looking for green jeans for ages. These should carry a warning though because they are super super soft and thus are a little fragile (translated as don't pull them up by the belt loops, they will break!) Lastly the shirt is an oldie from A-Wear's summer line. I adore the deep terracotta colour and cute horse print.

I picked up this scarf in Accessorize last week and I absolutely adore it! It has tassels all the way round and adds a bit of fun and texture to my boring navy wool coat. I originally saw this in Tanya Burr's vlogs and thought it was so cute so was really excited when I found it in Accessorize. They also had a pom pom version which was equally cool.

Press pause on winter. It's summer! Well it was for a few hours last week anyway at the River Island press event for spring summer 2012. As usual I have a little round up of my picks! What is your favourite piece?

Cotton top by Chelsea Girl- so sweet and perfect with some cut offs.

More is more with colour and print. The maxi skirt (far left)is amazing.

Neoprene crop top- no.1 on the to-buy list. Have a ton of outfits for this planned already.

Orange brogues and platform moccasins- a bit of mental for your feet. Big love.

striped plimsoles- I adore these, I live in preppy stripes in summer so these will definitely go onto the to-buy list.

This top is by Zara and has quickly become my most worn item, especially in Autumn when it was a bit warmer and I was less deathly pale. The gold is particularly festive and when paired with these deep wine coloured shorts from Warehouse I'm instantly reminded of old fashioned Christmas decorations. I have been enjoying my Bearpaw boots too despite the ridiculous anti-ugg snobberism. I'm pretty sure I have been on that judgmental band wagon but recently I have been extolling the joys of warm toasty toes and excessive sheepskin. Why not?

The other day I popped along to Project 51, the Irish design shop based on South William Street. There were some lovely items there, the mens area in particular stood out to me and I saw many things that would of made fantastic original gifts. The document holder by Rodolfo Dequina would of made a beautiful clutch bag and was actually quite reasonable at €130 (all items are handmade remember..) Other great pieces were the Tuttys handmade brogues, Brendan Joseph scarves and Arms shirts. It is so important to support our Irish designers so I really recommend that you check out Project 51. So you've seen this jumper before, the shorts and the jacket but this is a combination I haven't worn together until recently. This seems to be the year of the yard jacket. Everyone has one! This one is a bit different with its nutty brown colour, I think it makes it a nice change from the navy and green ones (although I do like those too). I paired mine with some pink denim shorts, moccasin boots and my aran jumper underneath. Toasty!

How to make brownies!!

I have finally got around to posting a new baking related post! This time it is brownies and I've included a video and a step by step image how to as well! This is a Nigella Lawson recipe from How to be a Domestic Goddess. The link to the recipe can be found here. Click below for video and images!

You will need plain flour, eggs, chocolate (pref good quality dark), vanilla essence, caster sugar, butter and walnuts.

melt the chocolate and butter together in a saucepan. Let cool.

Combine the eggs and sugar and beat together. Add the vanilla extract. Mix.

Mix the egg mixture into the chocolate/butter combo, mix with a wooden spoon.

Chop up the walnuts into chunky bits.

Measure out the flour and mix both nuts and then the flour into the egg chocolate mixture.

Pour into a lined baking tin.

Bake for around 25 mins depending on your oven,

When cool cut into slices

EAT!

Apart from golds and coppers, ruby and black are a combination I love in winter. There is something so sumptuous and tudor-esque about this colour combo and perfect for short days and dull lighting. Talking about tudors I would like to say a big congratulations to Joan Bergin who won an award at the Irish Tatler Woman of the Year awards last night. Yesterday I attended the opening of the Marvel Room at Brown Thomas in Dublin. The idea is to have all the most gorgeous Christmasy things in one room. Hi guys! Its only a few days away from Halloween now and it is getting chillier here in Ireland. I've been wearing my navy wool coat alot but on the warmer days I like to opt for my leather jacket and a cosy scarf . I've also been getting loads of wear out of my Kurt Geiger Spence boots. They are so comfy and they managed to survive the floods pretty well (I had to do alot of unsuccessful puddle hopping)!

Last weekend I was in London visiting my sister, it was such a lovely trip, all sunshine and lazy days wandering around different areas of London. We managed to squeeze in a visit to the Hummingbird Bakery where I got to taste the famous red velvet cupcake. It was unbelievably yummy!! We also spent hours pawing over fashion magazines in the newsagents next door. I got myself a copy of Lula, which is my favourite magazine and impossible to get over in Ireland. The shoots are so cute in the new issue, I'm particularly smitten with the one with Lily Cole, hopefully I can post a few sneaky peaks this week!

Most of you know that at the start of summer I had my graduate fashion show where I showcased my A.W 11/12 six piece womenswear collection. It was a crazy, crazy experience (everything had to be created and sewn from scratch all by oneself and in my case hand dyed too) but well worth it! I also got the opportunity to work alongside the fantastic photographer Siobhan Byrne, who, as well as being really talented, is also brilliant fun and really cool too. We came up with a moody shoot that she shot, and I modeled in. I'm really excited to share these pictures with you!!!

How to Style...A messy bun!

Today I have a hair tutorial for you! I only ever style my hair in two ways. One is the above, a messy bun, or down with a slight wave. I have been trying to get more adventurous and attempted heidi plaits which looked pretty cute but I dont know if they will become a regular. Also I hope you like my illustration! I think it is the first finished drawing I've ever put up here!

A few weeks ago I went along to the A-Wear press event for winter and Christmas. As usual there were lots of lovely bits to look at. I particularly fell for the horse print blouse (which I went out and purchased afterwards) and a plum dress that would be a lot more flattering than black for winter parties.

Those who regularly read BeckyDazzler know that I love to bake and sometimes I share my latest creations here. Last weekend I attempted Jam Tarts, which are ridiculously old fashioned and remind me of Enid Blyton books and 50s England. They turned out amazing and more to the point were easy and tasty. So tasty that I pretty much ate them all in a few hours...(with a bit of help from my Dad)

Recipe after the cut below...

Recipe;

Ingredients;

110g Self Raising Flour (I use Odlums)

25g Margarine

25g Butter

Some chilled water about 2 Tbsps

Strawberry Jam (I like Bon Maman)

How to;

This is my way of making the pastry cases, pretty much the lazy persons way of doing it and any self respecting baker would shriek at this but I'm impatient and it works fine...

Put flour and cubed up butter and margarine into a food processor and wizz up till it looks like fine breadcrumbs. Gradually add water until it clumps into a dough (still whizzing). Stop processor and remove dough, wrap in cling-film and out in fridge for an hour (I didn't do that last step cause I got bored so it probs got 10mins opps!!)

Take dough and roll onto floured surface until 3mm thick.

Take a round biscuit cutter and cut out the dough into 12 shapes. Place into a cupcake tray and push each circle into the hole a little. Spoon in one teaspoon of jam into each case. Bake at 140 degrees (I have a fan oven so change the temp around according to oven)

Bake for around 6-10 mins until pastry cooked!

Done!

Warehouse is not a store I usually shop in. However when I went to the recent press event I was really impressed. I noticed a youthful edge that is usually omissive from the Warehouse brand. Embellished neons, 60s minis, leopard and leather clutches and some gorgeous knits. The jumper above and below (click link for more pics!) is one of my fave Autumn buys so far, its an usual combo of navy and wine wool with some chunky cable detailing. I've been wearing it with my longer, straggly cuf-offs and some floral tights and cuffs. It's kinda nice to keep some florals, even in Autumn...

September has been a gorgeous month so far (except for today but lets just ignore that), lots of sunshine and since I am done with school and college (eek) it is so lovely to be able to enjoy each day without thinking about getting back into term times and assessments. I have however been working on a handful of very exciting projects all of which have been taking far longer than I like (I'm the anti-patience) but also hugely exciting. As for clothes I have abandoned all summery colours and living in layers, cute knits and chunky boots, sometimes cool weather dressing is the best.

Designer Spotlight-Viking Wong

I was so excited to have the chance to interview the amazing Viking Wong, a London based designer who has been selected by Vogue as one to watch in 2011. Not only did he agree to an interview but he also provided some sneak peek pics of his current sketchbook and his studio...Enjoy!

1.Can you tell us a bit about your ethos as a designer?

My ethos is all about good craftsmanship focus, details in garments and being fashion forward, not fashion conscious.

2.What are your main influences?

Most of my sources of my inspiration are the book "people of the 20th century" by August Sanders.

My design ideas are fueled by minute details missed in everyday life; sometimes completely irrelevant.

3.Do you have a muse? If not which female celebrity would you love to see in your designs?

It would be that imaginary woman in my head that has been influenced by all the women with strong characters that I meet everyday. Age is unimportant but my muse is definitely professional, stylish and fashion-forward woman.

4.What is the signature Viking Wong piece?

I don’t think i have a signature piece because I do think that design, especially fashion, is more about process than outcome. But there are key elements that I like to play with, time and time again. These include the tailoring, the cut, really exploring the silhouette of the woman, implementing details that i find amusing.

5.Your pieces have a unique balance with the masculine and feminine. What is it about menswear that interests you?

i just think that the menswear silhouette leaves more space for imagination, seduction is at its best when curiosity is present; so instead of revealing all at first glance, conceal and let people imagine. im also a big fan of tailoring and deconstructive movements, hence the menswear influence.

6.Your work feels at time almost sculptural, do you believe that art and fashion are the same?

in a commercial sense, no; but there are designers and there are DESIGNERS; the latter creates a work of art to be worn. i tend to find a balance between the 2 as commercial pieces keep the company afloat.

7.What is it like being a young designer in London?

Its fucking hard-work and at most times, disheartening. Its like a race of time to see if you can learn quick enough and commit less mistakes to make it, or you run out of time and funding..and subsequently fail; but "its not the critics who counts... ...the credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena... ...who, at the best, knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly" - T. Roosevelt 1910

8.Tell us a bit about how you turn an idea into a finished garment?

Mostly through research and development. Research is the most important part in my design process; without research there is no foundation to a design. With research comes development, which in my opinion, is what design is.

9.Tell us about an average working day in your life.

Usually i get up early to hit the gym to lift, then back in the office for a long day depending on where we are at the season, number of appointments and meetings. I juggle between overlooking the design and production of the team and also the business side. on a normal day we end around 7pm..then i go training in another gym and back home around 11pm, do some more research and emails until i fall asleep.

10.What have you planned for next year?

Recently for my new spring/summer 2012 collection, which I haven’t debuted yet, I’ve been playing with loads of softer garments, maybe a bit more feminine than last season, with a focus on dresses. Not just because of my interest but also because of marketing purposes: they sell better. So I’m trying to find a way to implement the tailoring and the cut, deconstruction, movement, to construct a dress that is quite fluid.

Its almost September and I've pretty much said goodbye to all my summery clothes now. I've become almost obsessed with stocking up on knitwear now and have enough to keep me snug and warm until spring comes back around. I am particularly fond of anything fair-isle so this jumper is one of my faves. I also got a gorgeous taupey brown cardigan from Zara with elbow patches a few weeks ago which I pair with cut offs and chunky socks.

Autumn Hues...

This week I have been slowly adding more autumn appropriate clothes to my wardrobe. So far I've accumulated a few knits in woody colours, a cute hat from River Island, some new boots from Kurt Geiger (black suede with buckles) and a very pretty sequined skirt from Reiss. It is always a bit hard making that transition over to a new palette and new shape. My weakness is stripes so that tends to find its way into most of my outfits despite the season, although this year I will make an effort to ditch them temporarily. 1.Zara Polka Dot Shirt-Polka dots are big news for AW 11/12 and the simplicity of this shirt makes it perfect in my opinion.I keep going into Dublin Zara to check if its in stock...Hurry up Zara!!

3.Topshop Jumper £46- I'm a complete sucker for anything with animals on it! I particularly like the way the polar bear is a bit blobby too. Very cute!!

4. River Island Leopard Hat €20ish- Okay, animal hats have been done to death but before everyone dons one I quite like the idea and this one is pretty adorable!

5.Jack Wills Stowell Jacket €299-I'm a complete sucker for heritage. This jacket has little details that makes it a little bit more special like a coloured under collar and lining.

Monday again! Eek summer is going far too fast, although the bonus to that is the new Autumn stock is coming into shops and its exciting to get to try out new colours, shapes and textures. I'm a sucker for all things heritage so I'm going to be searching for the perfect tweed jacket to transition my wardrobe into Autumn. Any ideas where to find a good one? The pics above feature my very own handmade chiffon tee. Its one of my favourite things I've ever made, there is something about chiffon and sheer layers that I adore. On that note I have a shoot this week with my collection, I cannot wait for you guys to see the whole collection!

I'd like to introduce you to my cat!! She is pretty old now (18?) and lives with my parents so whenever I get to go home I have to spoil her which has led to her being a little bit obsessed with me. (AKA she knows I'm an easy touch and I will feed her cat biscuits which she is addicted to)!! On a different note I attended the Beaut.ie awards last night at the Dylan hotel. The event was lovely with lots of free West Cost Cooler and Dylan chocolate mini cakes (YUM!) as well as a ton of amazingly dressed beaut.ie fans. I wore a really cute pleated dress from H&M which I tweeted a pic here if you'd like a peak but I will post about it properly soon!

Wednesday Wish Lists are going to be a regular feature here at BeckyDazzler, every week Im going to be giving you a peek at what I've been trying on, what I've been lusting after and what I've been putting on the To Buy list!

This week the above have been tempting me...

1.Topshop Nude Wrap Dress €70- This dress is so pretty, I love the deep V neck the only thing that put me off getting it was how simple it would be to make myself and the fabric was cheap too...Still want it though!!

2. Joseph Printed Tiger Knit Tunic €340(?)- Think I've got the price right! But yup this is the most amazing dress/tunic EVER!! I've tweeted a pic of me trying this on in Brown Thomas. I'm in love with it!

3.Topshop Chelsea Boots Studded €150(?)- Again I'm guessing a bit at the price, I remember seeing the price sticker and I think that is what it said. These boots are so perfect, they come in black too and I already have tons of suitable outfits to wear with them!!

4.Tee and Cake Dinosaur T-Shirt €30- The price of this sparked a bit of debate over on Twitter. Is €30 too expensive?? I personally think so although now I cant stop thinking about this tee, so dont call me hypocritical if I get it anyway!!

5. Marc by Marc Jacobs Mouse Flats €250- EEEEEK!!! Mousy shoes with studs. I NEED THESE!!!!! Awesome play on the boring reliable ballet flat!

Last Days of Summer

Eek how is it the 8th of August already?! In protest I am determined to wear as many as of my summery clothes as possible; florals, patterned trousers, stripes and espadrilles. I am also hardly ever out of my sunglasses now, they not only are instantly summery but hide a multitude of sins! These pair are called Jenna and are from Jigsaw (and were a prezzie from the lovely Laura Toogood) I particularly love the coloured arms they have and have been wearing them with a messy top knot. You may of noticed the Cosmo awards badge in the corner of my blog, if you fancy supporting my blog(s) please do nominate me. I will be eternally grateful and your support means alot!

This is a bit of a family tradition and every year my family and I attend it (well not Cat this year since she is in London). My dog Maisy would not leave me alone in the pics above, she was determined to be in as many frames as possible!

Knit Inspiration

I don't know whether it is the weather or the steadily encroaching autumn but my mind has been turning towards knit recently. There is something so comforting about a chunky bobble scarf or simple oatmeal pullover that makes knitwear a perennial fashion favourite. I, being a fashion graduate, quite enjoy setting up my (very unromantic) knitting machine and playing with patterns and textures. Despite knowing my purls from my knits there is still something magical about creating a garment with a set of needles and some yarn. Last year when I was studying menswear for a term I fell in love with the fair isles and golf wear of the 20s, despite being able to recreate my own take on these intricate patterns on the machine I don't think my hand knitting skills could cope with this technique yet! In the meantime I have been making some silk yarn knit friendship bracelets that still seem appropriate for late summer but could be a cute wintery variation on the summery thread variety. I cant wait to post some pics up when I'm done!!

The moment I saw this metal collar necklace in Topshop I had to have it!! I love the idea of wearing it over a feminine floral dress or with a shirt to create a double collar effect which I did in the pics above. The collar was around €22, definitely my new fave accessory!

Joseph A/W Preview- AMAZING!!!

Last week I stopped by Brown Thomas for the Joseph AW 11/12 preview. Joseph is a brand I associate with cashmere jumpers and workwear basics in great fabrics. Ageless classics you can depend on. So it was a shock (albeit a good one) when I got shown around the latest collection. Being a bit of a knitwear obsessive, it was the digital knit prints that really got me excited. Fine silk blouses and tunics got a modern and unexpected twist when adorned with beautiful tiger intarsia knit imagery. Even the cuffs and collars were printed with rib... The original knit is also divine. Soft, chunky wool and an oversized turtle neck collar makes it a perfect choice for winter and can be teamed with a matching scarf for added warmth and layering. The coats were another stand out item in the collection, different types of wool were combined together with great effect and the lengths were all of the new midi length. As expected there were many classic pieces such as cigarette pants in yellow and black, menswear inspired shirts and jackets and a fantastic jumpsuit in black and white silk. I even got a peek at the Spring Summer collection which I can also give a thumbs up to. I'd like to thank the lovely Rosie and Imogen for showing me the collection and advise you all to check the collection out when it hits stores!

Floral Wedges, Aviators and Thread magazine!

Being on the tall side I have never felt the lure of wedges (also I am slightly scared of falling over in them) but I did find a pair of Shelley floral ones knocking about that I got years ago in London so decided to give them an outing. I teamed them with a simple floral tee, pink jeans (both of which you've all seen in previous posts) and some white aviators. Whilst I'm still a little uncomfortable walking around in them I am determined to wear them a few more times this summer! I also went to the launch of Thread magazine last night. The magazine is the brainchild of stylist Aisling Farinella and can be found at Dublin boutiques Dolls and Indigo and Cloth. It is rather lovely so I advise you to get a copy now!

Brown Thomas Press Event-My Picks!

Yesterday I was invited down to the Brown Thomas press day, an event I was hugely excited to attend what with Brown Thomas being the best place in Dublin to find the creme de le creme of fashion. After a chance to catch up with some acquaintances and grab a smoothie, the show got under-way with the picks of the season. Celine was my personal favourite with winter worthy tweeds teamed with cute pinks and a very beautiful knit jumper and tweedy coat. Dolce & Gabanna also stood out with some oriental inspired print dresses as well as the Christmas party essentials; stars and sequins. One of the highlights however had to be the midnight suede boots from Alexander McQueen...One for the wish list!

I love press days! Diving into next seasons trends is always great fun and River Island didn't disappoint with its Autumn/Winter line up. There was plenty of variety from Boho/Gypsy to librarian. My faves were the soft pale furs mixed with sheer blouses and pretty knits, the verrrrry pretty wine coloured romantic maxi dress (perfect for the festive season) and tons of awesome jewelry. A Return to Basics

This month has been rainy, dull and pretty chilly here in Ireland and as a result I have found myself returning to old friends such as my trusty Aran knit jumper and black opaques. As the last few days of college come to an end (wooohooo!!!) I have been living in these as well as my trusty denim shorts and tan satchel, I cannot wait for the long, warm, free days ahead. I've been talking about the NCAD fashion show for yonks and finally it has been and gone! Saturday was so crazy with two shows and an after party but we all survived. Since I am in my final year in fashion design I had to create a six piece collection. Below are some behind the scene pics and above is my collection of clothes inspired by the twenties and the World Wars that shadowed the decadent era. The fabric was all hand-dyed by me and all sewn at college too.A lot of work but completely worth it!!

The last few weeks have been madness!!! College is finishing up for the summer so everyone seems to be grappling with exams and projects and I'm no exception unfortunately. This morning however I managed to have a quick photoshoot in the strange and beautiful 11, North Great Georges Street in Dublin. There were four of us modeling, four stylists, four makeup artists and hair and photographer, quite a crowd!! I'm pretty excited to see the pics, I was modelling some crazy 50s style pieces, pretty costumey but very fun and even better the photographer said I took the pic of the day!! Cant wait to show you the finished pics and to get done with college! I also headed down to Topshop to have a photoshoot for Stellar magazine were I wore my three fave outfits and had a little interview! One of the outfits can be seen below in a kinda ramble-y video! Hope your exams are all going brill! x

Florals and Spring, yup it is definitely a cliche but who can resist?! I completely fell for this distressed soft floral tee from A-Wear that had a vintage feel to it. Teamed with a juicy nail colour, my beloved Swatch watch and simple jeans (turned up to the ankle and worn with plimsoles) I love the wearability of this outfit. On a different note today was the Royal wedding!! I, like so many others, was blown away by Catherine and her divine McQueen dress (and wow her sister looked amaze too!). I dont know whether I should admit this but I actually cried a little, such a perfect wedding. What did you think of the Royal wedding?

Happy Easter!! I hope everyone is enjoying their Easter eggs! The last few days here have been so sunny and hot and I have been lucky enough to be spending some time back at home in the countryside. My oversized wide brim hat has definitely got lots of use as have my denim cut-offs and some hippy tops. For a bit of a change I decided to film an outfit that I wore out last night! Trip to RTE!!

Today I was lucky enough to go down to RTE to film a few clips about my style and BeckyDazzler (thus the giant pic in photo one!) Orlagh and Roisin were absolutely lovely and I had a fantastic time! College has been beyond crazy with the show looming (eeek!!) and the Mittlemoda competition having the most demanding entry form ever (had to include a short film!!) which is why posting has been slow, but bare with me, I have a competition/giveaway later this week and LOTS more posts on the way (just maybe a bit slower than usual)! x
